So at 4 and half months, Iris is showing interest in different foods. With her budding teeth, and having the ability to use her tongue to push things out, the doctor has let us know that we can start trying to introduce a variety of foods to her. Of course we will start out slow, gauge her interest and go from there. According to the doctor, because Iris enjoyed drinking her immunization medicine (there are those that are taken orally) she shows the ability to move beyond just ingesting milk, and the fact that she can support her head, as well as use her tongue are signs that she is ready.
To test the waters, sort to speak, was to introduce the concept of taste. So why not go full Korean/Mexican style and give her some good old 5 Alarm Chili Hot Sauce! At first my wife, was thinking it would not be a good idea, because it might be too hot, but I think for a first try, we should let her senses be overwhelmed for a sensation never to be forgotten. So we will see.
What do you know… She loves it!!
Just kidding, actually we let her try some grapes, and it appears she really does enjoy the taste of grapes. Our game plan for the introduction of foods will proceed at a modest pace. A few days later we will let her try some well pureed rice mixed with some milk (as per advice of our doctor) and every few days later will try something new. A word of caution, we only want to introduce one food at a time! This is especially important to ensure that if any food allergies exist, we will know to what. However, I am not too worried, for as far as I know there is none in either side of our family’s history… But its better to be safe than sorry (when it comes to your child’s safety).
